Influenza (flu) vaccination is the primary method for preventing flu and its severe complications.* Concentra provides flu vaccinations to patients through walk-in appointments beginning in October, the beginning of flu season.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says the “flu season” runs from October through March, and they recommend people in high risk groups receive a flu vaccination, even after flu may have already been reported in your community – it’s not too late!

The flu vaccination is safe, and, with reasonable precautions, is considered the primary method for preventing flu-related respiratory illness, physician visits related to flu, hospitalization, and death. The current flu vaccine is up to 90% effective in preventing the common flu and would help maintain a stronger immune system in the event a new strain of flu emerges.

Antiviral Medications

If you become exposed to the flu, your physician may also recommend that you begin taking an antiviral medication. This medication doesn’t help prevent the flu, but it helps your body fight the infection so that your flu symptoms may be less severe.
